The Lincoln cent—America's longest-running and most popular coin—turned 100 years old in 2009. This year also marked the bicentennial of president Abraham Lincoln's birth. To celebrate, Congress authorized the U.S. Mint to release four new reverse ("tails") design's celebrating: Lincoln's birth and early childhood in Kentucky; his formative years in Indiana; his professional life in Illinois; and his presidency in Washington DC.
