President Franklin D. Roosevelt was also a stamp collector and personally oversaw the selection of stamps and designs during his administration. 

However, it was Secretary of the Interior Harold Ickes who felt many Americans were unaware the federal government had set aside vast amounts of land to become our National Parks. 

1934 was declared National Parks Year and various national parks were featured on a variety of U.S. Stamps.
