1908 Barber Quarter Lady Liberty Repousse Nov. 22, 1904 Pendant
Diameter: 24.3mm
Weight: 6.5 grams
Reverse: PAI.Nov.22,904
The design pushes out over 6mm from the surface of the coin.
The bail on the coin will fit a chain 2.5mm thick.
This Repousse art form is also called a pop-out or pushed-out coin. The likeness of lady liberty in this turn of the century numismatic oddity was created using a popular US coin available at the time with two dies designed to push out the metal from the reverse and the second to create the image likeness of Lady Liberty looking out from the busted surface of the obverse.
These coins were made into a variety of jewelry items popularly using either the Liberty Head (Barber) Dime, (Barber) Quarter, (Barber) Half Dollar, or Morgan Silver Dollar turning these into Rings, Pins, and Pendents.
I have even seen the three coin denominations soldered together to make a pocket watch fob. While basically scarce it's difficult to find examples exhibiting
all of the coin's original design elements due to wear.
